Day 2 in Belize

Good morning.  We had a very productive day yesterday (Monday).  The guys completed the framing, flooring, and set the trusses on the house we’re building for a senior adult couple who are faithful members of Belmopan Baptist Church.  It was quite warm, lots of sun, so we had to really use a lot of sun block.  Of course, we drank lots of water.  We only had one accident-Jonathan mashed his finger with a hammer, but it’s not too bad, and he’ll be able to work today.  The ladies had a dental clinic at the Selena school and will be back there today.  They saw 21 of the students there.

The Belize Team Landed

We had a great trip down.  Very smooth trip on Saturday.  Sunday, we went to church morning and evening.  Both services were great.  The people are really enthusiastic worshippers.  Everyone enjoyed the day.  We had some time to rest Sunday afternoon before the busy week that starts today.  The guys will be building a 20 X 20 foot house for a senior adult couple plus a porch on the front of the house where they cook.  The ladies will be assisting a dentist who is here from El Salvador for the dental project.  They will do a lot of cleanings.  It has been pretty hot so far and very dry until this morning.  The weather report is calling for showers today and tomorrow.  Hope it doesn’t hinder our work here.

Attention Belize Team

I have finally uploaded ALL the pictures that you all gave me. I also want to thank you for getting them to me. A lot of you have mentioned that you would like copies of other people pictures. I have now created a shutterfly account so you can do exactly that. I tried to make each person’s pictures a folder but some of them got mixed together. Please let me know if you have any questions. Here is the site www.fbctmissions.shutterfly.com ~ if it asks you for a password just use fbct. I hope you all enjoy the pictures! Please let me know if you have any problems.

Testimonies from Belize

Below are a few testimonies from our trip to Belize. From what I have heard from EVERYONE that went on the trip; it was very memorable and touched everyone’s heart. If you are interested in putting your testimony on the blog; you can either leave it as a comment or email it to me and I will make sure it makes it on there.

I had the privilege of being the first veterinarian to work under Fishers of Men. My team consisted of myself, Dr. Victor Gongora (of Belize), Larry Payne, and Matthew Cooper.  The first requirement from Belize was that I speak for 2 hours to school children.  Unlike here in the States, I was able to present the plan of salvation as a part of my talk.  On the second day, we worked at the Belize zoo.  We worked with eagles, owls, and a tapir. Day 3 was spent with a very conservative Mennonite community, vaccinating their horses.  Day 4 consisted of setting up rabies clinics in poorer villages.  We had to be accompanied by officials from the health department. Before the end of the day one of the officials prayed to receive Christ!   This trip will forever be a highlight of my life.  The work of Buddy Hardy and Fishers of Men is amazing and I look forward to another trip. Carl Grimmett

We began our work early on Tuesday morning.  The demolition was easy as the structure was very much in need of replacement.  The work was hard and hot, but I can say it was more than worth the effort!  To go into a situation with so many needs, and three days later leave having finished a structure which will significantly improve a family’s living conditions is very satisfying.  But more than completing a physical structure, we followed the example of Jesus, “Inasmuch as you have done it unto the least of these my brothers, you have done it unto me.”  Throughout the week we gave to the people of Belize, but God gave back to us.  I believe God will use the “seeds” we planted to bring spiritual fruit in the lives of the people we touched.
